Links To Additional HILL Surname Web Sites

  • HILL Surname DNA Project When traditional methods of research finally hit that "brick wall," Y-chromosome DNA testing may help in identifying new branches of your HILL family tree. The HILL Surname DNA Project, one of over 200 surname projects in the U. S., was created to take advantage of this new scientific approach, in an attempt to determine which HILL family groups are related and have common ancestors.    The James W. Hill family does participate in this project.  Once you reach the "HILL DNA" web site click on "Test Results" and then scroll down to "Group 28."   Please note the following description for the origin of our DNA Haplotype:  This lineage originated in the northern portion of the Fertile Crescent where it later spread throughout central Asia, the Mediterranean, and south into India. As with other populations with Mediterranean ancestry this lineage is found within Jewish populations.
  • Subscribe to the HILL Family Discussion List.  Just click on the link and type "SUBSCRIBE" in the body of  your e-mail message.  After a few days you will begin to receive e-mail from the HILL RootsWeb news group.  Although you will receive many messages about HILL clans that are not related to you, odds are you will eventually connect with some long lost relatives.
  • Early Hill Families 1600-1700 This web page is part of the "HILL Surname DNA Project" and is available to anyone who would like to post their Hill ancestors born prior to 1800. As part of your research you many want to research those who have already been posted.
  • Hill Family Genealogy Forum  Anyone can post to this excellent forum and immediately have their data shared with other HILL researchers.

Links To Additional Web Sites That Focus
on Genealogy In Virginia

  • The Virginia Civil War Home Page - This site is hosted by Jeff Weaver.  He has written several excellent books about specific Virginia civil war units.   Jeff also lists many additional resources for those who are researching ancestors that participated in the Civil War.
  • The Library of Virginia Home Page - There is enough information here to keep you busy for hours.  If you plan to visit this library then I would suggest that you first visit this web site and make note of specific index information in regard to the surnames that you are researching.
  • The Virginia Genealogy Forum - This forum is maintained by genealogy.com.   This forum can be very useful in reaching those who are doing surname research in specific Virginia counties.
  • VaGenWeb - If you are not already familiar with the GenWeb project, you should be.   This was the first resource we used when searching for ancestors in Virginia.
  • Virginia Family Research - This is a link to a team of professional genealogists that will do research for a fee at the Virginia State Library.

  IN LOVING MEMORY

Lois Esther Hill Robinson

June 29, 1923
August 19, 1998

This Web Page Award was received on August 21, 1998.  It is dedicated in memory of a very
wonderful person,  affectionately known to many of us as "Aunt Esther."   It was she who initiated
the James W. Hill genealogical effort  many years ago.   She constantly inspired, and continually
encouraged, all of the family members who have done research,  helped construct this Web Site,
organized reunions, published newsletters, written articles, and worked on the cemetery projects.
